General Mine Safety Awareness Training 

The course begins at 8:00 am unless otherwise noted. Participants should arrive 5 to 10 minutes early.

MINE SAFETY AWARENESS COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Mining is a major benefactor to Saskatchewan’s economy. It is forecasted that within the next 10 years that direct, indirect and induced mining employment in the province will account for 17% of total employment or almost 1 in 5 jobs.

​Also referred to as GMSA, the General Mine Safety Awareness training provides an overview of mine safety and is a requirement for all contractors who work on a mine site in Saskatchewan.

Course Topics:
  • Saskatchewan Mining Regulations, Occupational Health & Safety Regulations, and Saskatchewan Employment Act
  • Hazard identification and control
  • Personal protective equipment
  • Safe use of hand and power tools
  • Safe use of scaffolding and ladders
  • Controlled energy safety
  • Fire safety and hot-work awareness
  • Ground control awareness
  • Environmental awareness and spill reporting
  • Asbestos awareness
  • Incidents and reporting incidents
  • Fit for duty and drug testing

Jonathan Nickel is a nationally industry certified  Instructor. And most recently has exceeded the qualifications for General Mine Safety Awareness Instructor.
